In their endeavour to turn Cambodia into a Communist res publica they killed over 2 million people by working them to death, starvation or just slaughtering hundreds of people at a time in a killing field. They also attempted to rid the res publica of western practices. China- Mao Zedong took over China and turned them into a communist country before WWII, and he completely took over the country following the defeat of the Nationalist party in a Chinese civil war.
